    MEMORANDUM
    To: ?
    Senate
    From: ?
Alison Watt, Secretary, Senate Committee on Agenda and Rules
    Subject: ?
    Senate Committees revisions
    Date:
    ?
    26 May 2004
    At its meeting on
    25
May, 2004, SCAR approved that the following matters be forwarded to Senate for
    approval:
Motion 1. That Senate approve that the terms of office for the elected Faculty representatives on
the Senate Committee on University Priorities be staggered so that 3 positions come up for
election each year. This would take effect with the elections in June 2004.
Motion 2. That Senate approve the following revisions to the membership and terms for the
Senate Nominating Committee. This would take effect with the elections in June 2005.
    .
    From
    To
    2 Senators 2 year terms
4 Faculty Senators 2 year terms staggered
    2 Senators 1 year terms
    1 Student Senator
    1 Student Senator
    1 Graduate Student at large
    I Student at large (Alternate)
Motion 3. That Senate approve that the terms of office for the elected Faculty representatives on
the Senate Graduate Studies Committee be staggered so that 3 positions come up for
election each year. This would take effect with the elections in June 2006.
    Rationale
These committees will benefit from some continuity in membership year over year. Presently, the terms
of all the faculty representatives on SCUP end in the same year, and potentially they could all turn over.
To avoid this, SCAR recommends that the terms be staggered. Initially this means that some elections
should be for one year and some for two years. At the request of SCAR, Ron Heath and I selected (by
roll of the dice) the three faculties which would have the two year terms. This means that in the current
elections to take place at Senate on 7 June, 2004, the terms of office would be as follows:
    Faculty
    SCUP
    Applied Sciences
Term would end on 31 May
    2006
    Arts
Term would end on 31 May 2006
    Business Administration
Term would end on 31 May 2006
    Education
Term would end on 31 May
    2005
    Health Sciences
Term would end on 31 May 2005
    Science
Term would end on 31 May
    2005
In 2006 when the SGSC terms expire, either SGSC will determine the staggered terms, or the method
    0
    ?
used to determine the SCUP terms will be used for the SGSC terms.
