Certificate in Italian Studies
From: Phyllis M. Wrenn, Chair
Department of French
Date: 28
May 2004
At its meeting of 20 May the Department of French approved a proposal for a Certificate
in Italian Studies.
Attached is proposed wording for the Calendar entry for this Certificate. The School of
Contemporary Arts, the Department of History and the Department of Humanities were
consulted during the preparation of this Certificate proposal and copies of e-mail
correspondence from the Undergraduate Curriculum Chairs of each of these departments
are attached, confirming the agreement of these Departments to the inclusion of their
courses as elective courses in the Certificate.
The proposal for a Certificate in Italian Studies has been developed in response to
requests from students who wish to complete a credential relating to Italian. The
proposed Certificate comprises 10 courses :
5
Italian courses, four of which already exist
and which are offered regularly. The fifth is a new course, proposed as a required course
and as a link between the Italian language courses and the five remaining courses, which
may be selected from a list of already existing courses in the Departments of French,
History, Humanities, and the School of Contemporary Arts.
Advising for the Certificate courses would be done by the Undergraduate Advisor in the
Department of French, the home department for Italian courses.
Also attached is a New Course Proposal for ITAL
300-3,
which was approved
at
the
iofe.:
meeting of the Department of French on May 20.
