MEMORANDUM
00: ?
Senate ?
FOR INFORMATION
From: ?
C. MacKenzie, Chair
Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies
Subject: ?
Second degrees and WQB requirements
(SCUS Reference: SCUS 06-15)
Date:
?
April 26, 2006
The Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies at its April
25,
2006 meeting, approved the following
motion:
"that acting under delegated authority SCUS approve that, for the 2006/2007 academic year
only, students admitted to a second degree be deemed to have met the breadth requirements,
one of the Q requirements and one of the W requirements.
Any Senator wishing to consult the full report of curriculum revisions should contact Bobbie Grant,
Senate Assistant at 291-3168 or email bgrant@sfu.ca
.
Rationale:
The Faculty of Education recently requested a time-limited partial exemption
from the new W,Q, and B degree requirements for students admitted to the
Bachelor of Education second degree. In discussion at SCUS, it seemed appropriate
and equitable to apply this partial exemption to all students admitted to
second degrees in the 2006/07 academic year. This exemption acknowledges the
work completed as part of the first degrees, while at the same time preserving
two important elements of writing and quantitative work to be completed at SFU.
In the coming months, SCUS will engage in a full discussion of the current
requirements for second degrees, and will reconsider the impacts of the new
W,Q and B requirements within the requirements for second degrees.
