The search committee composition for all decanal positions except for the Dean of

Graduate Studies provides for at least one member of the support staff from the

constituent Faculty or unit. While there may have been historical reasons for this

omission based on a relatively small staff complement in the Dean of Graduate

Studies (DOS) Office, such is no longer the case. The move from the Registrar's Office

to DGS of graduate admissions staff, plus several new positions created to manage

enrollment growth and new programming, have resulted in a current complement of

13. 1 believe it is now appropriate to include a representative from this group on Dean

of Graduate Studies Search Committees. The following motion therefore needs to be

approved by Senate and the Board.

Motion:

that Policy A13.05, sub-section Search Committee for the Dean of

Graduate Studies, be amended to include one member of the support staff,

elected by the support staff of the Dean of Graduate Studies Office.
