Interpretation Clause for Policy B 10.06 - Presidential Search Policy

At the Board of Governors' meeting on 1 February, 2007, there was a discussion about

the interpretation of Board policies. Following the Board meeting, Judith Osborne, Vice-

President, Legal Affairs and I reviewed the Board Policy Series BlO and will be

recommending to the Board the addition of interpretation clauses for those policies. In

those cases, we will recommend that the President and the Chair of the Board of

Governors be responsible jointly for interpreting policies.

One policy B10.06 - Presidential Search Policy, requires the approval of both Senate and

the Board of Governors and given the subject matter of this policy, it is preferable for the

Vice-Chair of Senate and the Chair of the Board of Governors to be jointly responsible

for interpreting the policy if questions of interpretation arise. Therefore I request that

Senate consider and approve the following motion:

MOTION:

"That a new section be added to Policy B10.06 Presidential Search Committee

as follows:

Interpretation

Questions of interpretation or application of this policy or its procedures

shall be referred to the Chair of the Board of Governors and the Vice-Chair

of Senate, who will jointly make a decision which shall be final."

If this amendment meets with the approval of Senate, it will be forwarded to the Board

of Governors for approval.
