WQB requirements for Second Degrees

In April 2006, SCUS approved a university-wide, time limited exemption of the WQB requirements for
students admitted to second degree programs for 2006/2007; this matter emanated from the Faculty of
Education. The exemption stated that students admitted to second degree programs would be deemed to
have met the University's Breadth requirements, one of the
Q
requirements and one of the W
requirements. SCUS felt there was merit to this proposal and expanded it to apply to the whole
University. This item came to Senate for information in May 2006.
In December 2006, the Faculty of Education requested that this exemption be made permanent for its
students, and the matter was brought to SCUS again and discussed at its meeting of January 9, 2007.
After discussion, SCUS agreed that this matter should again be extended across the University, and
mandated that this be reviewed prior to 2011 as the faculties need further time to review the implications
before a final decision on this matter is made.
The following motion is therefore forwarded to Senate for approval:
