After a lengthy series of discussions and consultations across and within the
Schools of Communication, Contemporary Arts, and Interactive Arts and
Technology, and additional discussion with the Masters of Publishing Program,
a strong consensus has been reached on a name for the new Faculty:
Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology. (FCAT)
This name reflects important strengths within each of the Schools individually,
and more importantly, describes related and overlapping interests within the new
Faculty.
It is believed as well that this name complements the names of the other
Faculties at SFU, and will help to attract the interest of new students to the
University.
This name enjoys the strong support of all of the units. All of the units have
requested that I bring this forward on their behalf, as the name to be approved
by Senate.
