The Ministry of Education announced in December 2006 that "Starting September 2008, students will be able to take
English 12 First Peoples in place of English 12 and qualify for graduation and provincial scholarships. English 12 First
Peoples will be as rigorous as English 12 and include a similar provincial exam. Post-secondary institutions will be
requested to accept the new course as meeting their English 12 admission requirement."
* A draft of the new English 12 First Peoples (EFP12) Integrated Resource Package (IRP) was distributed last year.

We have been advised by the Ministry that development of the new EFPI2 IRP is nearing completion and distribution
is planned for May 2008 in preparation for implementation in September 2008.
However, we are facing a time crunch for our SFU 2008/2009 Calendar and Fall recruitment publications. If the
course is not approved by SCUS in May and Senate in June then it will be too late to include the new course in our
calendar and recruitment publications.
Recommendation:
That English 12 First Peoples (EFP12) is acceptable in meeting the English 12 requirement for
admission.
