SCAISLE was created in the Spring of 2005 with a shelf life of three years. The Committee is now approaching its
expiry date.
Although it was created in May
2005,
the Committee was late starting due to the difficulty involved in finding
someone to chair the Committee. A Chair was recruited by September 2005 and the Committee began work the
following month.
The original estimate of the time required to complete the responsibilities listed for the Committee by Senate was
reasonable and we have managed to cover most of the ground. There are some important issues that remain, however,
not the least being the finalization of the revised Code of Student Conduct and revised Student Misconduct and
Academic Dishonesty Procedures. These documents have been recently submitted to the President's Office and will
shortly begin the process of formal approval. The new system of departmental academic integrity advisors, overseen
by an Academic Integrity Coordinator, is also in its infancy and we would like to continue to strengthen the system.
We also need to develop a succession plan so that the Academic Integrity Advisor is supported in her efforts, on a
continuing basis, by an advisory committee accountable to the Registrar. In short, there are things left to do and the
Committee would like to see them through to completion.
We are, therefore, requesting an extension of SCAISLE's shelf life until December 15
th 2008. If this is granted, we
will present a final report to Senate at the January 2009 Senate meeting.
