At its meeting of 28 April, 2008 the Calendar committee reviewed, for approval
778-782-5732(fx) ?
by Senate, the schedule of dates for future semesters commencing Fall 2009 and
finishing Summer of 2012.
Notes:
1.
Each semester commences on a Monday or Tuesday and has 63 teaching days.
(Senate Paper
03-56)
2.
This three year schedule includes a two week "Olympic" break in 2010,
already approved by Senate. To accommodate this unique scheduling request,
the Summer 2010 terms starts on a Wednesday.
40 ?
3. Post Olympics, the committee was asked to look at implementing a week long
reading break in the Winter semester. This schedule accommodates that request.
The current practice of not having a reading break if Easter falls within the
semester will no longer be followed. The committee has also ensured that the
reading break is harmonized with UBC to accommodate students and faculty that
may be involved with both institutions.
4.
The practice of having the option to schedule exams on Sunday has already
been approved and is included in our time estimates.
5.
This schedule, with its shorter break between exams ending and the next
semester beginning, is based on the assumption that all faculty will be submitting
grades on-line, which will vastly improve processing time for evaluating student
standings.
MOTION:
"that Senate approve the proposed academic calendar schedule of dates
from 2009 Fall term to 2012 Summer term".
