It is our intention to delete the current Education and Technology
undergraduate minor for the following reasons:
• The primary reason is that the Minor has been undersubscribed for the last
several years despite some minor changes to encourage enrollment.
Currently there are only 5 students in the Minor. Of these, 4 have
finished all of the required coursework and I has one course remaining.
From a student point of view this is a good time to move on the deletion
of this minor.
• We have limited faculty resources (one less faculty member than
anticipated in this program area) and we feel these resources are better
assigned to undergraduate courses that are offered regularly. In the last
few years, several of the courses in the current Education and Technology
minor have been offered and then cancelled at the last minute for lack of
adequate enrollment. Faculty time in preparing these courses is then
wasted and could be have been better assigned.
• We are retaining two of the courses currently part of the minor (EDUC
358 and 482). EDUC 358 is a seminar course that is routinely taken by
students who intend to apply to our master's program in Educational
Technology and Learning Design as well as students exploring this field
to determine their interest. Thus adequate enrollment for this course has
not been a problem. We want EDUC 482 to be a course that is available
to students in our PDP program, to undergraduate students exploring
their interest in the field of educational technology and to practicing

teachers. Thus we are: a) removing the prerequisite oIEDUC 401/402
that limits this course to only PD? students and, b) we are offering this
course in the summer semester to attract practicing teachers.
I believe this is sufficient explanation - I am of course available to provide further
detail about our thinking as regards this Minor.
