At its May meeting, Senate received a notice of motion for a change in the Rules of
Senate and Election Rules with regard to graduate student representation on Senate. The
change is now ready for approval and gives rise to the following motion:
MOTION "that Senate approve the revision to the Rules of Senate and
Election Rules as outlined below:

E. Students; Student Association

4. There shall be at least one graduate student and one undergraduate
student among the total number

students elected to Senate under Part 7,
Section 35(2)(h)
of
the University Act

This change would take effect next year for the students taking
office in June 2010.

As a result of the
'
Faculty restructuring, there are now 16 student senator positions,
and I would like Senate to consider amending its rules to permit a higher minimum
number of graduate and undergraduate student Senators.
Currently the Election Rules contained in the Rules of Senate state:

There shall be at least one graduate student and one undergraduate student

students elected to Senate under Part 7, Section

the University Act.
I recommend that Senate approve amendments to section C. E. 4. to increase the
minimum number for graduate and undergraduate students to three of each. This
would take effect next year for the students taking office in June 2010.
