Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies at its
meeting of May 7, 2009, gives rise to the following recommendation:
    SMotion:
That Senate approve that effective May 1, 2009 the bracketed distinction
(Kinesiology) be removed from the BSc (KIN) and that students
graduating from the Faculty of Science in the Department of Biomedical
Physiology and Kinesiology receive a BSc.
    Rationale
This distinction was removed from the MSc program in 1991. With the recent
renaming of the department and the move into the Faculty of Science, it is an
appropriate time to make the BSc degree consistent with other BSc degrees in
    the Faculty.

    Physiology & Kinesioloqy
Please place this on the agenda for approval at the next SCUS meeting as a "housekeeping' item.
With the changing of Faculties, Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology moved into the Faculty of Science. In
Applied Sciences, Kinesiology offered their students BSc (Kinesiology) (honors) and BSc (Kinesiology).
Now that Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology is part of the Faculty of Science their degrees should be the
same as any other Science degree so we would like to remove the bracketed distinctions. The (KIN) addition to
the BSc was originally added only to differentiate the degree from the BSc in Computing Science. These were
the only two BSc degrees awarded outside of the Faculty of Science at the time. The school is now a department
in Science, and dropping the (KIN) is consistent with format for all other BSc degrees in the Science Faculty.
Students receive a BSc with a major in their departmental specialty.
There are no parenthetical designators on the Masters and PhD, so dropping (KIN) makes the undergraduate and
    graduate degree name format consistent.
The department now has a new name, with more than one major, so dropping (KIN) is inclusive.
