Subject: Impact of new scheduling policy
?
Date: November 10, 2009
As requested, here are two attachments showing the patterns of undergraduate primary class
sections (Burnaby, Surrey and Vancouver campuses), and of centrally scheduled classrooms
(Burnaby only), in Fall 2009, compared to Fall 2008.
Highlights include:
. With respect to scheduling of all primary class sections:
o Some smoothing out has occurred. In Fall 2008, the busiest period was between
9:30 - 11:30 am and 1:30 - 2:30 pm on Monday through to Thursday. In Fall 2009,
there is a decrease in the scheduling of primary class sections during those
times, and an increase during 3:30 - 5:30 pm on each day (see Figs 1A and 113).
o Friday continues to be different from the other weekdays. However, compared to
Fall 2008, there is an increase in the scheduling of primary class sections
throughout the day in Fall 2009 (see Fig. id.
o Compared to Fall 2008, the Wednesday peak between 10:30 - 11.30 am has
leveledoff in Fall 2009 (see Fig. 2C).
. With respect to centrally scheduled classrooms:
o Compared to Fall 2008, there is some leveling off in the use of centrally
scheduled rooms within the week. However, Wednesday continues to be the
busiest day (see Fig. 3).
The contents of the attachments include:
