SIM()N FRASER UNIVERSITY ?
THINKING OF THE WORLD

SCUS 09-22f
Faculty of Business Administration
"Fifty Exceptions for Fifty Exceptional Students."
Pilot - Fall 2009
(for discussion purposes only)
The popularity of Business Administration as a field of study for undergraduate students
at Simon Fraser University has created a situation where admission into the program has
become increasingly competitive. The minimum grade requirement for BC High School
students to gain admission is expected to be 90% for the Fall of 2009.
Recognizing that this high grade requirement will place SFU Business out of reach for
many talented, motivated and highly engaged students, the Faculty of Business
Administration would like to pilot a diverse qualifications admissions program entitled
"Fifty Exceptions for Fifty Exceptional Students."
Under this program, approximately fifty students who have applied to SFU Business but
have not quite reached the minimum grade requirement for admission to business from
BC high school (expected to be in the 80-90% range) will be given the opportunity to
submit a special online application for admission based on their demonstrated leadership
experience in any one or 'more of the -following areas;
• Entrepreneurship
• Social Activism
• Athletics
• Arts (Performing, Visual, Music, Writing)
• Community Leadership or Involvement
• Career Progression ?
- -
• Other (please specify)
This application form will allow the student to submit a concise statement explaining
why his or her leadership experience in the one or more of the above noted areas makes
them exceptional. They will be asked how their achievement or involvement will make
them a better Business student or Business leader and what official recognition or awards
they have received for their achievements. References will also be required.
Students who qualify for admission under this program will be selected by the Faculty of
Business Administration.
