At itsJanuary 9, 2013 meeting SCUP reviewed and approved the proposal to suspend admission to the
Explorations in the Arts and Social Sciences Certificate Program in the Explorations Program within the
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, effective Fall 2013.
Motion:
That Senate approve the suspension of admission to the Explorations in the Arts and Social Sciences
Certificate Program in the Explorations Program within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, effective
Fall 2013.

December 6, 2012, gives rise to the following recommendation:
Motion 1:
That SCUP approve and recommend to Senate the suspension of admission to
the Explorations Certificate in Explorations within the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences.

The program to which admissions should be suspended is the Explorations in Tne Arts and Social
Sciences Certificate Program
The program ispart of the Explorations Program atSFLPs Surrey campus.
The pro-am is offered in PASS. Itdraws upon other schools and departments for aa miniinum of
sixunits which mustbe atthe 200 division orhigher, including three units inarts orhumanities
disciplines, andthree unitsin social sciences.*'
Proposed date for suspension: September 2013
The reason for suspension ofadmission islack ofstudentinterest Of the approximately 800 students
enrolled inExplorations todate 21 have completed the certificate and between 10 and 1S other
students are active-
All past and presentExplorations students have been emailed about the intention ofthe Steering
Committeeto discontinue the Certificate. There havebeensixreplies in all, mainly fromstudents still
interested incompleting the Certificate. None ofthe replies protested the Steering Committee's
intention. There has been noattempt tocontact other faculties and departments because theimpact
