    DESCRIPTION
    This course provides students with an understanding of current issues and research in the field of learning
    disabilities. EDUC 422 focuses on the theoretical and conceptual dimensions of learning disabilities, and lays the
    necessary foundation for the more practical dimensions of assessment and remediation of learning disabilities in
    EDUC 424: Learning Disabilities Practicum.

    • Overview of Learning Disabilities.
    • Conceptual and operational definitions of Learning Disabilities.
    • Neurobiological dimensions of Learning Disabilities.
    • Genetic dimensions of Learning Disabilities.
    • Subtyping research in Learning Disabilities.
    • Social dimensions of Learning Disabilities.
    • Theoretical approaches to intervention for Learning Disabilities.
    REQUIREMENTS

    One position paper on specific topic determined by the instructor - 15 marks

    Written responses to assigned course readings - 15 marks
    3.
    Web site research and presentation - 40 marks
    4. Final examination - 30 marks
