COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for PDP students going to Laval University in July. Instruction will be given primarily
in English, although there will be opportunity for students to practice and improve their French language skills.
OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
• Develop a better understanding of the historical and actual context of the teaching of French as a
Second Language in the BC public school system;
• Examine the theoretical framework of teaching and learning of a second language;
• Familiarize themselves with the Integrated Resource Package for Core French and use it in their planning
of lessons and units;
• Develop abilities in teaching and testing language features and skills;
• Acquire practical experience in the communicative/experiential method of second language teaching.
COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
• Excellent attendance and participation in course activities, readings, discussions, and in-class teaching
practice

• Preparation and presentation of an original unit plan for Core French (see attached for criteria)

• Preparation and delivery of two formal lesson plans

Students are required to purchase a courseware package. Articles are to be read prior to the class. Students will
prepare an abstract of an article that they will present to the larger group.
