PREREQUISITE:
Educ. 401/402 or equivalent
Instruction given in French and English
Knowledge of French equivalent to French 206 or
with permission of the instructor (M. Varga at 291-3251).
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
This course deals with a variety of approaches, teaching strategies, and curricula for teaching
French as a second language in elementary schools.
OBJECTIVES:
The participant will acquire a better understanding of the theories, approaches and methodology
in the teaching of French as a second language; study aspects and application of current
language programs in British Columbia; study and practise teaching techniques; acquire skills in
evaluating second language teaching and learning. The focus will be on practical application of
the above. As well there will be a component to upgrade the language competence.

-Curriculum and commercial programs in B.C.
-Lesson and unit planning
-Culture
-Oral presentations
-Conversation Sessions
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Full attendance.
Active participation.
Assignments:
-short written and oral presentations based on teaching one or more of the four skills
-pupil evaluation of a given unit
-one unit plan (in detail)
-one mini-leçon
