COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces students to the basic ideas and practicalities
involved in teaching art to children in schools.
OBJECTIVES
1. To develop an understanding of the purposes and methods of art
education.
2.
To enable teachers to develop programs in art for particular
groups of students.
COURSE CONTENT
The aims of art education; BC curriculum, making and appreciating
art; art history; using the art gallery, hands-on experience with art
media (painting, drawing, day, crafts, sculpture/construction, print-
making, photography/video, etc.); art and environment; multicultural
and feminist issues; integrating the arts; planning and teaching;
evaluation.
