DESCRIPTION
The course is an introduction to the roles and applications of computers in
education, and to problems of computer uses in the classroom. The following topics
are covered:
Use of computers in the classroom: concerns and skills.
Use of software as tools: instructional and administrative applications.
Integration of software into the curriculum: evaluation and means of
integration.
Programming applications in the curriculum: computer problem solving.
Electronic communication in education: current possibilities.
COURSE ACTIVITIES
Course activities will consist of lectures and discussions, demonstrations,
readings and laboratory work.
EVALUATION
A paper documenting the design of an application of the computer to a selected
curriculum area.
A class presentation evaluating a piece of software, illustrating its uses and?
limitations for a selected learning or classroom administrative task.
Short tests related to readings, discussions and demonstrations.
Laboratory exercises demonstrating computer operating skills.
