    COURSE DESCRIPTION
    Elementary mathematics can be stimulating and fun for both teacher and student. The
    curriculum will be presented through a variety of strategies and activities designed to
    promote student interest and growth in the subject and reduce anxiety. A problem
    solving/hands on focus will be emphasized throughout the course.

    • Estimation and mental computations
    • Measurement
    • Calculators and computers
    • Data analysis
    • Geometry
    • Historical topics and algebra
    • Mathematics across the curriculum
    • Gender equity in the mathematics classroom
    EVALUATION
    Due dates and details will be discussed during the first session. Evaluation will be
    based on the following:
    • attendance and participation
    • completion and presentation of unit plan with an activity
    • choice of review of textbook or software package - or - preparation of an activity
    log/resource book
    NB: Assignments may be submitted in either French or English
