    DESCRIPTION
    This course examines the concepts, values, and practicalities that underpin the
    teaching of visual art to children in schools.
    OBJECTIVES
    1.
    To develop an understanding of the nature, purposes and methods of art education.
    2.
    To enable teachers to develop programs in art for particular groups of students as
    required.
    COURSE CONTENT
    Why teach art? The aims of art education; BC curriculum, K-12; creating art in the
    classroom; art appreciation; art history; visiting the art gallery; hands-on experience
    with art media (painting, drawing, claywork, crafts, sculpture/construction,
    printmaking, etc.); individual and collaborative work; multicultural art education;
    integrating the arts; discipline-based art education approaches to teaching and
    organization; children and art; evaluating student work; planning a program; some
    controversies.
