    PREREQUISITE.
    Educ. 401/402 or equivalent.
    DESCRIPTION:
    Students will be introduced to the basic philosophies and practices embodied and advocated by
    art education.
    OBJECTIVES:
    1.
    To explore and gain an understanding of artistic ideologies, art production, art
    appreciation, creativity and contexualization.
    2.
    To afford teachers with the theoretical and practical experience necessary for the
    development of meaningful and diverse programs in art.
    COURSE CONTENT:
    Art production (printmaking—mono, limo and woodcuts, paper making, batiking, pottery, low-
    relief ceramics, collage, drawing and painting, photography and multi-media production); B. C.
    curriculum; art history; purposes, training and motivation; creativity and self expression;
    multiculturalism and feminism in the arts curriculum; responding to artworks; the importance of
    the art gallery; contextualizing artworks and the art experience; planning and teaching;
    evaluation.
    REQUIRED TEXTS:

    A
    Contemporary Reader on the Arts Debate.
    Donald and Barbara Herberholz. Artworks for Elementary Teachers:
    Developing
    Artistic and
    Perceptual Awareness.
    Several articles and recommended readings will be given out in class.
