Language is closer . . . than breathing,
and nearer than hands and feet.
    - Tennyson
This course will indicate the questions that must be resolved by each English
teacher and the ways the prospective teacher may begin a search for his/her own
philosophy of answers. The course will deal with what the English teacher is to
do with the abundance of materials available in the new resource courses. The
students of the prospective teacher, those who will use the ideas and content,
will be of primary concern. Practical designs for humanistic learning which
aid in teaching each aspect of the language arts will be illustrated. Since
learning is not expected to happen because of information given, participants
in this course will be expected to become involved in the discussions and
    activities.

The format of the classes will consist of a variety of instructional strategies
and a variety of student activities.
