DESCRIFIION
This course introduces students to the ideas, practicalities, and concerns
that form the basis of the teaching of visual art.
OBJECFIV&S
1. To familiarize students with the requirements of the BC curriculum,
the Year 2000 materials, and other concerns currently affecting art
education.
2.
To acquaint students with the basic concepts of art education and to
develop programs in art for particular groups of students as
required.
3. To guide students in the use of basic art media.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
Aims of art education; key concepts; BC curriculum; making and apprec-
iating art; art history; children's artistic development; elements and prin-
ciples of design; gallery visit; hands-on experience with art media; art and
technology; multicultural art; planning and teaching; evaluation; art and
society; motivation and strategies for image development; the role of imag-
ination in teaching; integrating the arts.
