COURSE CONTENT:
This section of Education 464 will be presented as a series of
perspectives on early childhood education, past and present.
An eclectic approach will be maintained throughout, together
with an emphasis on the integration of principles of growth
and development into educational programs that meet the
physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children
from 3 to 8 years of age. Attention will be focussed on choosing
among alternatives and setting individualized program and child
goals.

Observational reports of young children's language and
other interactional behaviour.
2.
A term paper on an early childhood education topic. Topic
selection to be made on an individual basis in consultation
with the instructor.
3.
Weekly summaries of assigned reading material. Readings
will be available in xeroxed form.
ELIGIBILITY:
Education 464 is open to Early Childhood Education students and
also to others who have a more general interest in the field.
A previous course in developmental psychology (eg. Psych. 351)
is desirable but not a pre-requisite.

This is the required text. It will be used as a starting point
for identifying current areas of concern in early childhood education.

This text is highly recommended as an overall curriculum guide for
students already or about to be engaged in conducting early
childhood education programs.
