DESCRIPTION OF COURSE
This course will focus on a writing process approach to teaching reading and writing and
oral language in the classroom.
Students will be actively engaged in the process of writing and developing curriculum.
This is
not
a course in which materials will be cut, pressed and laminated.
This course will focus on the principles and practices which instill the love of learning and
independent thinking in the language arts classroom.
OBJECTIVES
This course will actively engage students in meeting these objectives.
1. Become familiar with these aspects of writing process:
a. focussing
b.
audience awareness
c.
rewriting
2. Complete three writing assignments to a point considered satisfactory by the
instructors.
3. Participate in a variety of prescribed drama activities.
4. Develop 3 drama activities in any subject area and grade of the student's choice.
5.
Examine measurement and evaluation in the language arts classroom.
6. Consider language arts as an interactive and personal process of developing thought
and language.
7. Develop strategies to making reading and writing and speaking relevant and natural and
powerful for the language and student.
8. Use knowledge of learning style to improve questioning strategies.
