    TOPICS, The sound system of English, and pronunciation difficulties for the
    immigrant student.
    Language acquisition, and the implications for second language
    learners.
    Teaching techniques for the E.S.L. classroom, lesson planning,
    adapting the programme for individual needs, the Open Learning
    approach, composition and rhetoric, contact assignments, parent
    involvement, public relations aspects how the E.S.L. teacher
    can help.
    Evaluation of existing programs, texts, testing procedures.
    Use of drama, music, multimedia techniques, the buddy system.
    ASSIGNMENTS,

    Participation in weekly seminar sessions (10% of mark).

    Two take-home quizzes - one in October, one in November (25 each).

    Observation of existing E.S.L. programs in Kelowna (tentative). (
