(Students are advised not to purchase any textbooks until after
the first class meeting).
The course is designed for teachers and prospective teachers of elementary and
secondary school mathematics. The focus of the course will be on at least the follow-
ing:
- use and selection of material aids in the
teaching of mathematics.
- SUBTLE approaches to teaching mathematics
(SUBTLE staiis for the subordination of
teaching to learning).
- humanizing the teaching of mathematics by
utilizing the powers of children.
Each student will be expected to complete a term project and other such assignments as
are agreed upon among the participants.
Topic-wise an intensive and extensive study will be made of these among others:
- number concepts
- operations (algebraic and arithmetic)
- fractions
- geometry
- equations
- relations
