Education 401/402. Instruction given in English
Premièrement, bienvenue dans le cours! This course on Core French in designed especially for students
participating in the language/culture immersion trip to Quebec. We will begin by reviewing the foundations of
Core French teaching in Canada. We will critically examine assumptions about language and learning underlying
current approaches to teaching a second language. We will review the literature in second language education
related to Core French teaching and discuss new developments in second language theory, research and practice.
Through a variety of directed large group, small cooperative group, and individual activities, we will draw on our
knowledge and background experiences, explore our second language learning processes and work on classroom
strategies that can be applied to teaching French as a second language. Current curriculum documents and
materials for Core French will be analyzed in light of recent advances in this field.
