Using an experiential approach, this course will assist the student:
- to develop competencies related to curriculum development, evaluation
and implementation
- to gain theoretical and practical understanding of curriculum and
its implication for education and soci.ety
- to develop curriculum related to his/her own subject area age group
and professional needs
- to internalize a model of self-education applicable to both
institutional and non-institutional settings and life long learning
These goals will be developed through the following activities:
- class presentations and workshops
- individual and group neaotiated contracts on competencies related
to curriculum development
- critical discussion of related readings
- consultations with community resources, experts in the field and
other members of the teaching profession
Requirements for the course will be met through contracts, negotiated with the
instructor, which focus on the acquisition of competencies relevant to curriculum
development. These negotiated contracts will also form the basis of the letter
grade assigned at the end of the course.
