COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed to introduce students to theories of career choice, adjustment, and
development. Emphasis will be placed on established theories that have come to be particularly
influential in the development of career education curricula and in the practice of career counselling.
OBJECTIVES
1.
To familiarize students with a variety of theories in vocational psychology, with an emphasis
on established theories that underlie most career education curricula and career counselling
interventions
2. To encourage critical evaluation of these theories, including an understanding of the need to
consider individual and group differences (e.g. developmental status, cultural identification,
gender, etc.) when applying the theories.
3.
To assist students in applying the theories, to, for example, the understanding of their own and
others' career development, the design or evaluation of career education materials, or the
understanding of how such theories guide the practice of career counselling.
REQUIREMENTS
Grading will be based on written assignments, class presentations and a final exam.
