COURSE DESCRIPTION
rhis Institute will explore the historical and cultural background of gender and equality issues as well as gender equity in
he workplace, espeëially educational settings. Emphasis will be placed on non-sexist classroom practices including
inalyzing curriculum, evaluating learning resources, and developing classroom and school strategies.
INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Dr. Leslie Roman is a sociologist of education with the Department of Social and Educational Studies at UBC. She
;pecializes in the study of feminist and anti-racist pedagogy.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
tudents are expected to come prepared to discuss, question, and critique the reading(s) for each day, as well as to
articipate in class discussion. Also required are two written critiques of the daily readings and a cooperative group
)roject and presentation.
READINGS
students are expected to read a package of articles which will be sent to them before the course starts, as well as additional
irticles given out during the course.
