DATE:
January 27, 2012
StartingJanuary 2012, amendments to the
Criminal Records Review Act
(CRRA) require students to consent to a
special CRRA Criminal Record Check before enrolling in certain courses. The courses affected are those with a
practicum
component that involves working with children or vulnerable adults.
SFU is required by law to ensure that every student registered in a practicum that involves working with children or
vulnerable adults undergoes a
CRRA Criminal Record Check. The University must submit consent forms with
payment to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. SFU is prohibited by law to permit students to work
with children or vulnerable adults without a CRRA Criminal Record Check. Similarly, if a CRRA Criminal
Record Check returns a determination
of risk, the University is obligated to ensure that the student does not work
with children or vulnerable adults.
This requires the University to add the statement "Students must successfully complete a Criminal Record Check" as
a prerequisite to the following courses:
Education 799 - Supervised Counselling Clinic I
Education 800 - Supervised Counselling Clinic II
Education 801 - Counselling Practicum I
Education 802 - Counselling Practicum II
Psychology 821 - Practicum in Individual Assessment
Psychology 823 - Practicum in Intervention
Psychology 825 - Intervention
Psychology 831 - Practicum in Child Evaluation and Treatment Formulation
Psychology 880 - Practicum

Psychology 882 - Neuropsychology Practicum
Psychology 883 - Practicum III
