PROPOSAL
On Monday, February 9, 1976, the Graduate Programs Committee considered,
approved, and agreed to recommend the following change to the Faculty:
• .
?
i) Change
"4oiLty to thitty-eight"
semester hours.
?
ii) Add
"A Student, with the

and the VL'.ecL.to-'. oiç Gn.adawte P'togkarm5, mail /Lc.pA?Lctc.e. one .opc.ca-.
pnoject (5 4eme.,s;te.,'t hou'o) with one g'Lctdaa..te coWz-oe /ywm anj

RATIONALE
The arguments in favour of this change are that by enabling a student
to elect a graduate course in lieu of the second (Ed. 882) project, the
proposal
i)
substantially increases the degree of program flexibility and
responsiveness to student interests and needs without materially
diluting the rigour or diminishing the quality of M.A. programs.
ii)
opens up to students the full range of graduate courses offered by
other Faculties on the campus as well as those in the Faculty of
Education.
iii)
will probably reduce the amount of student project supervision
within the Faculty thus freeing up faculty time and energies for other
program development and research activities.
iv)
removes a mandated 882 project that students view as a marginal
educational experience when compared to the educational benefits of
881 and responds to their expressed concerns for exactly this kind
of flexibility and choice within the M.A. programs.
