    Senate Nominating Committee
    Paper S.72-53 - Nominations and Election of One Faculty Member from
    the Faculty of Science to the Senate Committee on Scholarships,
    Awards and Bursaries

    As no nominations had been received from Senators by the deadline
    for receipt of additional nominations, the Chairman stated that he would
    accept a motion from the floor on the recommendation of the Senate
    Nominating Committee.
    Moved by S. O'Connell, seconded by A. Lachlan,
    "That the individual nominated to the Seflate
    Committee on Scholarships, Awards and
    Bursaries be declared elected by acclamation."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.
    MOTION CARRIED
    R.R. Rennie, of the Department of Mathematics, was declared elected
    by acclamation to the Senate Committee on Scholarships, Awards and
    Bursaries for term of office from date of election to September 30, 1973.

    Senate Graduate Studies Committee
    Paper S.72-54 - New Graduate Courses - Chemistry

    Courses, Chem 600-5, 601-5 and 602-5,
    as set forth in Paper S.72-54, be

    It was noted that these courses are designed for

    taking a M.Sc. (Ed.) Degree and do not carry credit for the Master's
    Degree in the Faculty of Science.

    Moved by R. Brown, seconded by J. Wheatley,
    "That Senate approve the new course proposals
    for:-

    General Studies 100-3 - Modern Art and Its
    Mainsprings - The Eighteenth Century, and
    General Studies 200-3 - Modern Art and Its
    Mainsprings - The Nineteenth Century."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    Moved by R. Brown, seconded by R. Jennings,
    "That Senate suspend its rules with regard
    to the two semester time lag requirements for
    the offering of new courses in order that
    General Studies 100 may first be offered in
    the Fall semester 72-3, and General Studies
    200 in the Spring semester 73-1."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    "That Senate delegate to the Senate Committee
    on Undergraduate Studies the authority to act
    on the recommendations of the area study
    steering committees in the Division of General
    Studies regarding the addition and/or deletion
    of existing departmental courses in their list
    of electives, and that further action by Senate
    not be required."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.
    MOTION CARRIED
    In response to enquiry, R. Brown agreed that the Senate Committee
    on Undergraduate Studies would be expected to report to Senate periodi-
    cally in respect to its activities in this area.
