The Mathematical Physics Committee
0
out of 6 members being on
campus this month) recommends the following change in the requirements
for the Mathematical Physics honors Program:
The requirement
of
CNI'T 103-4 and the note condi-
.tionally allowing
Ct4PT 118-3
as an alternative are
to be deleted.
In
place of ctii'r 103-4, the proposed
course cMPT 1XX-3, "Introduction to Programming for
Science Students", is to be required.
Reason for change - there has been widespread
dissatisfaction expressed
about C141'T 103-4 not meeting the needs of science students. The proposed
CMPT 1XX-3 has been designed in response to those objections to CMPT 103.

e) "That CMPT 102-3 be Included In the list of courses
required in the Chemistry Major, Chemistry Honors,
Bio
chemistry Major and Biochemistry Honors programs, and
that CMPT 102-3 replace CMPT 103-4 in the list of
courses required In the Mathematical Physics Honors
P
rogram." (1-83-7)
CMPT 102-3 has been developed by the Computing science
department on consultation with members of the Faculty of
Science. The course is based upon Fortran 77 and will
emphasize the use of computing in the solution of problems
in the natural sciences.
The course will be presented to SCUS and to Senate for
approval and Inclusion in the next calendar for these
programs would be desirable.
