MINIMUM UPPER DIVISION SFU
WORK REQUIRED
In November 1977 the Faculty of Arts Curriculum Committee
submitted a recommendation concerning the maximum number
of hours of transfer credit from other institutions that
could be counted toward a Minor.
?
Following discussion at?
SCUS the recommendation, on the request of the Arts
representatives, was transmitted to Senate, but other
Faculties were re'quëstèd to consider this matter.- In
January 1978 Senate considered the proposal and referred
it back to SCUS for comments from all Faculties.
?
The
respolises indicated some disagreement on the recommendations
as worded, but some argument in the broad principles evolved.
In February/March recommendation was made to SCUS for an
alternative approach to the issues, with request that there
be response on behalf of each Faculty.
• .-
?
The representatives of Science verbally indicated accept-
ance of the new proposed wording, having expressed a
preference for a minimum 7 semesters of upper division
work to be taken through SFU courses and with willingness
to proceed with a general University policy.
?
The Faculty ?
of Arts, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of
Interdisciplinary Studies gave further consideration and
responded' in writing, with Education later adding verbal
response. ?
The basic desire is to ensure that for a student
to be granted indication of completion of a Minor throuqh
Simon Fraser University there be completion of at least a
minimum number of upper division credits applicable to the
Minor through SFU courses.
Motion is as follows:
"To qualify for a specific Minor oil a
degree program at least 7 semester hours
of the upper division credit used toward
the Minor must have been completed through
Simon Fraser University courses."
