Dear Jo:
SCUS 09-59
I have now received replies from all departments with courses that have not been
offered during the last six semesters, and are listed for possible deletion from the
calendar (Your memo of August 20, 2009).
Only three of the courses listed with 0 enrollment from 1081 to 1097 should be
deleted (BISC 411, BISC 492, and EASC 417) according to the respondents.
All the others are covered by memos to me or Rosemary Hotel/ explaining why they
should not be deleted at this time. The reasons range from departure or retirement of
faculty members who teach these courses, maternity leave, or, as in the case of the suite
of MASC courses at Bamfield and others, ongoing reviews of programs that are not yet
complete. In all cases there is a need to keep these offerings, either because they will
be taught once teaching resources are sorted out, or they are under review by
departments. Hopefully, by next academic year, the future of many of these courses will
become dearer. In the interim, I hope we can keep them.
If you want copies of the memos outlining reasons for wanting to keep course, let me
know and we can provide them to you.
Best regards, Rolf
