This first phase of the
Centre's operation is now over;
Residents
accept that the University does not
intend to develop an
undergraduate program
in the Arts due to
evident
limitations
of staff and apace.
The Centre has accordingly set out the attached specification for the
position of Univaraity Resident. It will go into effect on May 1 1968.

Definition of
UNIVERSITT RLSItNT
The University Resident category is normally a two year appointments
renewable, and is defined as follows
1)

artists of distinction in their profession.

One semeater

a teaching and/or inatructiorthl activities
involving direct
contact
with students - graduate and undergraduate
students - and involving a normal load of teaching hours in lectures,
tutorials or workshops.
ii)
One emoster in which the Resident will undertake a project.'
This project must be approved by the Centre, and must contribute
substantially to the Centre's overall program at the University.
iii)
One semester in which the Resident will pursue his own oz
totally free of cempua responsibilities.
In all semesters, the Univorsitys expectations from Residents
will be 8trict]y limited to professional contributioa, working
within the University Coxunity, and linking the
University with
the larger ccemunity.

laries and Promotions

Initial salaries for new appointees will be negotiated on the
basis of their professional distinction and qualifications.

Salary increases and appointments without term will
be deter-
mined in recognition of major achievwenta and growing reputation

Communications Centre or in cross appointments to other departments
of the University.
University Residents are Lull mezibirs of Faculty, and their
rights and privileges are protected by the University Faculty
Association.
