Action taken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate

Studies at its meeting of October 18, 1977 gives rise to

the following motion:

MOTION

"That the

?

course proposal for G.S. 300-5,

Introduction to Marxism and the Arts, as set

forth in S. 77-128, be approved and recommended

to the Board for approval.

Note - the course G.S. 300-5 is currently in the calendar

as "An Introduction to Marxist-Leninist Criticism of the Arts".

The title change is proposed to avoid some of the overtones which

have become associated with the term "Marxist-Leninist".

The calendar has not previously included a description of the

course and a description is now proposed to aid students in

understanding the nature of the course prior to enrolling

for it. Finally the vector is being revised to 0-5-0 to

reflect actual practice of offering the course as a seminar

rather than lecture and seminar.

At a meeting held on October 4/77 the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee approved a change in the title of

G.S. 300-5 and the addition of a Calendar description, as shown

on the attached New Course Proposal Form.

Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies.
